The central herd, mostly in Jackson County, was started in 2015 but until this year hadn`t been approved for a hunting season. The northern herd has had a hunt since 2018.
For the first time this fall, the Department of Natural Resources will offer a bull elk hunting season in both of Wisconsin`s elk herds.
