Albertsons slashes outlook amid cautious consumers, soft grocery trends


Albertsons Cos. reported strong growth in its first-quarter digital and pharmacy sales, but ongoing softness in its core grocery business took a toll on its results.

The grocer cut its outlook. It now expects identical sales in the range of (1.5)% to (0.5)%, compared to its previous estimate of 0.0% to 1.0%. Adjusted net income per share is expected to be in the range of $1.75 to $1.85 per share, down from its previous estimate of  $2.22 to $2.32 per share.

In other moves, Albertsons said it will consolidate 11 divisions into four regions under a new regional operating model, with a focus on strengthening its connections with customers, supporting stores and driving results within communities...
